I compiled, wrote, and road-tested all the rides for Rubber to the Road, Vol. II, a guidebook of 30 Portland-area bike routes.

It was an enormous undertaking, especially since we did it well before the era of easily accessible GPS-integrations and online mapping resources that now exist. In spite of, or perhaps because of, this, Rubber to the Road remains an excellent resource for some of Portland's finest road rides.

There is now a companion website as well. </description>

<description>From 2006-08, I was the Sr. Editor and Writer for Nau. I created, contracted and curated all editorial assets, including product copy, website copy, marketing collateral and retail signage elements. Together with the Creative Studio team, I generated and executed brand-strategic messaging across all channels (web, retail stores, partner organizations).

Project: Off The Grid monthly newsletter

Need: Create a monthly newsletter for subscribers that focused on three main goals:
1) Highlighting new content (video, articles) on nau.com that were focused at Nau’s core audiences
 2) Increasing awareness of and driving traffic to seasonal promotions
3) Delivering compact, educational content about Nau’s sustainable product development, and its support of partner organizations (Partners For Change).

Solution: By designing a content template that remained the same each month (much like a magazine layout), Off The Grid was able to cover a broad array of topics in rich yet compact story treatments. Readers were both able to learn more about numerous topics within the newsletter, as well encouraged to explore any area in more detail on the Nau website, or at websites of our partners or media outlets that were focused on the business.

		<description>Client: Nemo Design

Project: Voodoo PC rebranding and website redesign

Need: Voodoo PC, HP’s high-end gaming and performance brand, needed a more up-to-date, polished and on-brand website. Both look and feel, and brand voice required an injection of personality, voice and market positioning.

Solution: Working with Nemo’s design team, I crafted a more refined, mature, and directed voice for the Voodoopc.com site copy. This was executed in headline treatments and product information, all the way through to storytelling copy about the brand and its history.

		<description>
From 2009-2011 I was Sr. Copywriter at Columbia. I lead copy strategy and execution for Columbia’s ecommerce and marketing web sites, including brand and product copy, blog posts, customer outreach emails, campaign micro-sites and site instructional copy. I also worked closely with the Creative Services team to create and refine the brand messaging for our Retail environments on a seasonal basis.

I created a lot of emails: these are a few of my favorites.

<description>Client: The Woodlands Retail + Online Shop

Project: Email newsletter and product copy

Need: Local retailer The Woodlands has a unique product mix and a strong brand identity, but had yet to start really reaching out to its community and customers. They wanted to create an email newsletter that really captured the store’s vibe and point of view and shared new products with its subscribers, without feeling too commerce-driven or coming off as inauthentic

Solution: Working with the shop’s owners, I crafted a fresh, slightly smart-ass, regionally anchored voice for all the product copy on the site, as well as for all email communications. By all metrics—new subscribers, click through, and sales—this project has been a solid success.

Project: WK Founders Day 25th Anniversary party program

Need: WK needed a program that celebrated the agency’s history, highlighted the incredible line-up of speakers who were presenting at the day-long event, and served as a compact tour guide for Portland, which many attendees would be visiting for the first time.

Solution: Working with event producers Mass Gatherings and designer Al Baik (Nike), the program was designed to evoke a classic carnival playbill, with key locations around Portland highlighted and detailed on one side and on the other, information and the bios and background of the six featured presenters. I wrote all the copy for the piece, as well as the copy for the on-site event signage: Ring Toss! Milk Bottle Balancing!

Project: Nemo Design + Process Guide

Need: Nemo required a treatment to their Design and Process Guide that could elevate beyond something that was read once by clients and then filed away--or worse, trashed. They needed a set of guidelines and insights that would truly show how they worked, and how that was different from all other agencies.

Solution: I worked closely with the senior Nemo team to craft, edit and refine their existing content, as well as add to it, making sure it became more than just a transactional manual, and instead a true extension of their brand, as well as a rich content snapshot of the range of work they do.
